Car history: |
01/03/2014 This 1954 Corvette is presented in Polo White with Red Vinyl interior. It was the 2639th one built in 1954. It comes with the 235ci/150hp inline six cylinder and backed by a two speed Powerglide transmission with a solid axle.
This is what the previous owner told us about this car. In late 1954, Elkhart Chevrolet sold this Corvette to a doctor in Ohio. He owed it until 1969 when his sons felt that the 6 cylinder was under powered and talked their father into trading it for a 1969 Chevelle convertible. The owner of Elkhart Chevrolet bought the car back for his private collection. After retiring he moved to Ocean Isle, NC and took the car with him so he and his wife could enjoy driving down the Boulevard as it was designed to do. Over time the car seen less use so in 2009 he sold to a collector in NC who was a member of the AACA. The new owner had the car cosmetically restored and in the spring of 2010 it WON first place at the AACA meet in Charlotte, NC. The car was then sold to another collector of fine Corvettes and then owner sold it to the owner who we purchased it from. He kept it until last month until he traded it to us.
These are the words that were inside the sales brochure back in 1954: Since its introduction in January 1953 as an experimental dream car, the revolutionary Chevrolet Corvette -- equipped with Chevrolet's famous Powerglide Automatic Transmission -- has been thoroughly proved by thousands of miles of strenuous testing, and now is being produced in limited numbers. Sensational in styling and performance, it sets the standard for a coming field -- THE AMERICAN SPORTS CAR. Designed exclusively for sports-loving, fun-loving people, it combines the graceful silhouette, light weight, sparkling action, and a free-as-a-breeze companionship of the true sports car with the comforts, conveniences, and riding qualities that are expected in an automobile today. It's real fun to drive a Chevrolet Corvette.
